Fill out the templateThis is a letter that can be used to submit further evidence to contest an insurer's rejection of a claim when items of the policy holder's property has sustained damage or been lost.
The document provides a simple template that enables a person to set out the key facts that are required to request that the insurer's reconsider their decision based on new evidence.
This document should not be used where the policy holder wishes to submit a complaint regarding how long it has taken an insurer to make a decision regarding a claim or to complain about a claim being refused. This document should also not be used to reject an offer made by the insurer in relation to any other items or a vehicle.
Once the document has been completed, simply post or email it to the insurers, and wait for them to write to reply. If there is no response from them within 14 days, it may be prudent to consider further action with the financial ombudsman or small claims court.
The letter should be sent as soon as possible after the rejection but in any event, before commencing any action in court.
In order to prove that the letter was sent, it may be prudent to send it by recorded delivery, or keep a receipt or other proof of posting.
Moreover, it is often useful to obtain and enclose independent evidence to support the claim.
The relationship is subject to the principles of contract and insurance law.
