A Letter Requesting for an Extension of Period to Pay or Discount on Commercial Rent is a letter that a lessee can use if they want to request for an extension to pay their rent or a discount on the rent, or both.
Some lessees may need to request for an extension of the period to pay or a discount due to financial troubles that might make them unable to make rental payments. Instead of simply defaulting on their payment, the lessee may prefer to send a letter requesting for an extension of the period to pay the rent or a discount on the rent. This might show good faith on behalf of the lessee that they intend to pay the rent but are simply unable to do so.
Unless otherwise provided in the contract between the lessor and the lessee, making a request does not guarantee that it will be granted by the lessor. If the lessor does not reply to the request then the rent that was agreed upon by the lessor and the lessee will not be changed and should be paid according to the lease agreement.
The user should enter all the information required to complete the document. Once completed, the lessee should review the document and, if all the information is correct, sign it.
The lessee can send this letter by mail, email, or personal delivery. If the letter will be sent by personal delivery, the lessee may print a second copy of the letter which can be sign by the lessor or their representative as proof that they received the letter.
The lessee may keep a copy of the letter for their records.
Although there are no laws that specifically apply to requests for extension of leases, the laws on contracts and obligations, as well we as the law on lease, found in the Civil Code of the Philippines may be applicable.
