The Lease Renewal Request Letter is a document that is used by a tenant to request the renewal of their lease term. When a tenant's tenancy is about to expire and the tenant wishes to continue occupying the rental property for another term, the tenant can send this request to the landlord who will consider the request and either accept or refuse to grant the renewal.

Before granting this request, the landlord will consider certain factors such as: whether the tenant has conducted himself in a good manner, whether the tenant has paid all outstanding rent or whether the tenant pays rent regularly and whether the tenant has complied with the terms and conditions of the lease.

How to use this document

If the tenant desires to renew their lease, the tenant should send this letter before the expiration of the lease term. Sometimes the residential lease or commercial lease agreement may specify the length of notice the tenant is required to give the landlord if they wish to renew.

For example, the lease agreement may state that the tenant should give a notice of intention to renew 2 weeks before the expiration of the tenancy. In this case, the tenant should comply with the notice period stipulated in their agreement.

After filling out this form, the tenant signs the letter and delivers it to the landlord or their authorized agent. The landlord will then consider this request and either grant another lease term (with or without an increase in the rent) or refuse to grant the renewal.
