The Rental Application Letter is a document that can be used by someone looking to rent a property. Not all landlords require a written application, but a potential tenant may send this letter to stand out from other persons seeking to rent the same property.

Some landlords want tenants that fit a particular description (for example, a landlord might prefer graduate students or working-class persons). Landlords have the choice to choose their tenants based on some criteria like employment status, character, or other criteria that affect the landlord's interest in their property. For instance, a landlord might inquire about their tenant's employment status to confirm that the tenant is capable of paying rent on time. However, a landlord is prohibited from discriminating against any tenant based on their sex, age, status, etc.

This is just like a cover letter, wherein the tenant can show the best attributes that make them a good fit for the rental property. Therefore, sending this letter can be a good way to show the landlord or property manager why the tenant should have the rental property. Note that in some cases, some landlords request for Rental Reference Letter to support the rental application. The rental reference adds more credibility to a person's rental application as it shows that the person is capable of paying their rent on time and keeping the rental property in good condition.

  • Rent Control and Recovery of Premises Act and Laws of various States. This provides the procedure a lessor or landlord must adopt in recovering his demised premises. The procedures are primarily to protect the interest of the lessee against the lessor;
  • Land Instrument Registration Act and Laws of various States. This relates to the registration of instruments relating to land in Nigeria;
  • Land Use Charge Laws;
  • Property and Conveyancing Laws; and
  • Conveyancing Act.
