The primary purpose of this letter is to make a formal written request to the employer to sanction a flexible working arrangement. Sometimes, the flexible working arrangement may be sanctioned over verbal communication with the employer, but it is always better to put the request in writing (even if verbal approval has already been provided) to avoid any disputes in the future.

Flexible working hours can include options like working from 8 AM to 3 PM to take care of the small children of the employee or reducing the working days per week by increasing the daily working hours.

This letter can be used by any type of employee working in diverse types of organizations/companies. This document can be used in case of an initial request or following up on verbal communication with the employer.

The initial working arrangement or hours of working are determined by the employment agreement or offer letter issued to the employee. This letter is used to make changes to such an arrangement. If the proposed arrangement is as per the binding internal policies of the organization or applicable laws and regulations in the state where the employee is working, the employer must accept such proposal.
